Introduction

Everyone know 1st July is celebrate Every year in India as National Chartered Accountant’s Day or CA Day. This day is celebrated as the foundation day of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in 1949 and acknowledges the contributions of Chartered Accountants (CAs) to the socio-economic development of the country.

History and Background of CA Day

The history of the CA profession in India can be traced to 1913 when the Indian Companies Act was enacted, which included a provision for appointment of auditors in the companies. The Government Diploma in Accountancy course was started in the year 1918 and this was the beginning of the formal accounting education. It was on 1st July 1949 that the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 was passed by the Indian Parliament which established ICAI.

Gopal Das Padamsi Kapadia was the first CA in India and the first President of ICAI from 1949 to 1952. She was also a first woman CA of India, during time of British rule and was called to bar in 1937, in the face of social taboos and even after the complications presented due to her imprisonment during non co-operation movement by British government.

CA Day is an acknowledgement of the dedication, honesty, and accuracy that CAs bring to the world of accounting. Chartered Accountants are the Pillars of Transparency, Compliance, and Economy. Their work includes auditing, taxation and advising businesses and individuals on financial and business matters as well as financial reporting services and planning services.

The ICAI, being the exclusive licensing and regulatory body in India for the audit and accounting profession, is responsible to see that the professionals (Chartered Accountants) act in professional spirit, devoid of fear or favor, for maintaining such code of conduct by the professionals. With a strength of over 2.5 lakhs members, ICAI is the 2nd largest accounting body in the world which speaks volumes about the profession impact in the global financial arena.

Latest News and Celebrations of CA Day

It is the 77th CA Day celebration in India in 2025. The Celebrations are being conducted at the Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi where professionals, students and dignitaries are coming together to mark this day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the day, greeted all Chartered Accountants and highlighted their crucial role in ensuring precision and expertise in any organisation.

The dates for the Final, Intermediate, and Foundation have been extended from November 2025 to 14th November 2025, after the ICAI declared the results for the may 2025 CA exams; however the results for the Final, Intermediate, and Foundation came out on 6th July 2025.
